Ragam MOHANAM:

 Mohanam is the derivative of 29th Melakarta Dheera Sankaraabharanam.

Swarasthaanas: S . R . G . . P . D . . S

It is an Audava, Upaanga, Prasiddha Raaga.

Mohana exists in all the systems of World Music with many different names, but with the same Swarasthaanas. Though it has only 5 notes, it is a magnificient Raaga and sky is the limit for its scope. All kinds of music like folk, drama, light, semi-classical, Cinema Music etc. exist in Mohanam.

M & N are absent in Mohana.

Mohana is a Moorchhana Kaaraka Raagam.

Mohana being a great Raaga, Raaga Alaapana, Swara Kalpana and other branches of Manodharma Sangeeta can be elaborated in it. 3 octaves and 3 speeds are its ranges. It is a Rakti Raaga. Mohanam can be taken as the main item in any performance. Mohanam produces “Sammohanan” (Mood of love and attraction). All the positive moods are produced by Mohanam. Mohanam is sung in the recitation of poems and slokas in Dramas and Puraanams. As it is an easy raga with aesthetic appeal, it is used for Brinda Gaanams. (Community singing of devotional songs.)
